On the morning of Thursday 1 October 2026 we were at the Bildungshaus (education centre) of Schloss Puchberg in Wels for the IT Business Breakfast of Infotech. Infotech EDV-Systeme GmbH, an IT, cloud, security and internet provider from Ried im Innkreis, had invited businesses from the Wels region to a free breakfast in the Hofsaal. Breakfast was at eight, the talks began at 8:50, and networking ran from 10:20 until noon.
We went with one of our clients from the construction industry, which had brought the morning to our attention. It is a team we admire, for the care it brings to its building sites and for how readily it puts new tools to work in its own office.
Five short talks made up the programme. Martin Mallinger, of Infotech's management, had "Infotech stellt sich vor: IT, Cloud, Security und Internet aus einer Hand" (IT, cloud, security and internet from one source). Patrick Kühtreiber had "Das NIS-Gesetz 2026 ist da: was jetzt zu tun ist" (the NIS Act 2026 is here: what to do now). Roland Ehrnleitner's talk was on Proxmox, flexible virtualisation and efficient IT infrastructures. Rene Zeilinger of headwAI, Infotech's partner for the morning, had "Managed KI: Souveräne KI-Services made by Infotech & headwAI" (managed AI: sovereign AI services). Daniel Neulinger's talk covered how the internet really works and GINO, the e-card service for the healthcare sector.
Infotech's photographs of the NIS talk show a date to remember. One slide sets out registration and self-declaration under the new law, with registration due by 31 December 2026.
NIS2, the EU directive behind the new Austrian law, covers sectors such as energy, drinking water and waste water, and those sit at the centre of our practice. We advise on and deliver water, power and controls infrastructure, and our software practice builds websites and the internal tools of the firms we advise. Security duties and sovereign AI both reach into that work. We left before the end of the morning, with calls waiting that afternoon.
